A Uniquely Mexican-American Standoff

I was rudely awakened from the bliss of the American Dream, only to find myself deeply involved in a tense and merciless Mexican Standoff. The drug cocktail I had consumed for days, in a failed bargain with myself, hoping to have one last encounter with an Original Idea, and numb myself to the emptiness that is already perfectly vacant, was a radioactive blend of Fukushima Bluefin, Monsanto Corn Chips, Lehman Brothers Plastic, topped with processed American Cheese.  Lying here now, bloated stomach filled with plastic bottle caps and bags, a half-dead consumer, blue jeans stained and my last refuge – a Smith and Wesson pistol – in my jaundiced hand, I realized what I had been fighting for my entire life: it was Death all along!  Like the mark of a well-executed con, thinking I had the power and the gun, I had been left holding an empty shopping bag.

A Jewel at the Heart of Quantum Physics

This is a really fascinating article about a new mathematical model that simplifies scientists’ predictions about particle interactions at the quantum level.  It doesn’t surprise me that beautiful geometric forms like this might emerge from quantum physics and mathematics, similar to the natural forms visible to the naked eye (such as snowflakes and fractal symmetry in plants).   The hypothetical, geometric structure has been named the “amplituhedron.” See the article in Quanta Magazine here: https://www.simonsfoundation.org/quanta/20130917-a-jewel-at-the-heart-of-quantum-physics/
